Reflecting on the year so far

by The Balanced Life Project

Well, here we are—somehow more than halfway through the year. If you’re anything like me, you’re wondering where all those “this year I’ll finally…” resolutions went. Maybe they’re hiding under that pile of laundry, or maybe they took a long vacation without telling us. Either way, now’s the perfect time to pause, take a breath, and check in with ourselves before the next season sweeps us off our feet.

First, Let’s Be Honest…

Life doesn’t always stick to our color-coded planners. Some months feel like a wellness retreat; others feel like a three-ring circus—with us juggling work, relationships, self-care, and remembering to drink enough water. So if your year so far has been more “beautiful chaos” than “perfect balance,” congratulations—you’re human.

The Gentle Art of Looking Back

Reflection doesn’t have to mean dissecting every little thing we could’ve done better. Instead, it’s about noticing what worked and what didn’t, and offering ourselves a little grace in the process.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I proud of from this year so far?

  • What drained my energy—and what filled it?

  • What small joy did I almost forget to celebrate?

Maybe you started meditating… once. Or maybe you finally said “no” to something that didn’t serve you. These count as victories—tiny, sparkly moments that deserve recognition.

Finding the Funny in the Fumbles

Let’s face it—some of our “growth opportunities” come wrapped in ridiculousness. Maybe your attempt at early morning yoga turned into an unintentional nap on the mat. Or your journaling practice lasted three days before the notebook became a grocery list. That’s okay! Laughter is part of balance too.

A Midyear Reset

Reflection isn’t just about looking back—it’s about gently steering forward. What do you want the rest of your year to feel like?

  • More slow mornings?

  • More time outside?

  • Fewer screens and more sunsets?

Pick one small thing that moves you closer to balance—not perfection, just better.

A Toast to the Messy Middle

We tend to treat January as the big “fresh start,” but honestly, now is a wonderful time to begin again. You’ve got wisdom from the first half of the year, humor from the missteps, and a whole lot of time left to write the rest of the story.

So here’s to reflection, realignment, and remembering that balance isn’t a finish line—it’s a rhythm. Some days we dance, some days we trip, but we keep moving forward with a little more grace (and maybe a good cup of coffee in hand).
